In 2017, Americans sent 9.8 million tons of furniture to landfills nation-wide. Built of elements from these discarded fixtures, Relay is seating as a study in degredation. Each person who chooses to use this seat will create an impact, as it slowly erodes into nothingness.
A wooden base measuring 6.5” in height supports an 11” cube of plaster encased upholstry fiber – as the plaster wears, it fractures and gives under pressure, like a cushion, and dust will assist in matting the fiber into textile-like material.
